Visiting Scholar American Bar Foundation: Joachim Savelsberg
Professor Emeritus Joachim Savelsberg was appointed a Visiting Scholar at the American Bar Foundation in Chicago for the 2025-26 academic year. He will be on leave during the fall, attending AFB events remotely, while continuing field research among Syrian refugee NGOs and universal jurisdiction actors in Berlin. Data collection for his project was supported by an NSF grant. Savelsberg’s main work during the academic year will be advancing a book manuscript, with Jillian LaBranche (Princeton University), tentatively titled “Hearing Cries for Accountability: NGO-Prosecutorial Networks and Syrian Regime Crimes.” Exchanges with colleagues at the ABF will provide inspiration and valuable feedback.
