30th Annual Sociology Research Institute (SRI)
Each year, the Department of Sociology celebrates graduate and undergraduate student research at the Sociology Research Institute (SRI). This academic festival provides an opportunity for our students to present their research in a professional meeting format. Honoring the achievements of our students and faculty, we invite our alumni and friends to reflect on a tremendous group of scholars and their cutting-edge research, teaching, and service.
Questions? Please contact Elizabeth Cronin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
SRI 2020 will be held throughout the day on Friday, April 17.
This year we have the distinct honor of welcoming Professor Ed Walker from the University of California, Los Angeles as our keynote speaker.
Professor Walker is a sociologist interested in the political activities of corporations and social movements. His research has investigated how corporations intervene in public life through mobilizing grassroots campaigns and partnering with nonprofit organizations, the ways that business contexts structure the tactical choices of protest groups, and the relationship between fully professionalized (or “non-membership”) advocacy organizations and traditional membership organizations. Walker's 2014 book, Grassroots for Hire: Public Affairs Consultants in American Democracy, was published by Cambridge University Press and won the Charles Tilly Award from the American Sociological Association section on Collective Behavior and Social Movements.
