We are delighted to welcome Lu Yang to the School of Statistics as an assistant professor. Yang received her PhD in statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2017, following a BS degree in mathematics from Zhejiang University, China. Upon graduation from Wisconsin, Yang joined the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands as an assistant professor in actuarial science and mathematical finance.

Yang's research has focused on the development of statistical methodology motivated by insurance applications. In particular, she is interested in multivariate analysis with discrete outcomes, and she has worked on nonparametric estimation of copulas. Yang's recent research also includes regression model diagnostics, especially with discrete and semi-continuous outcomes.

Outside of work, Yang enjoys reading and traveling. After spending several years in three different continents, she looks forward to moving to the Twin Cities.
