Adam Rothman Announced Interim Director of the School of Statistics
Exciting leadership updates within the School of Statistics
First, please join us in congratulating our Director, Galin Jones, who has accepted an appointment as the Vice Provost of AI for the University of Minnesota. In this new capacity, Galin will lead the University’s AI Hub, driving innovation and education across the state.
With Galin’s transition, we are thrilled to announce that Professor Adam Rothman will serve as the Interim Director of the School of Statistics.
A familiar face to us all, Adam brings years of dedicated leadership to the School. His administrative experience includes a five-year term as Director of Undergraduate Studies and nearly four years as Director of Graduate Studies. He also played a key role in expanding our academic programs by co-creating the B.S. in Data Science with the College of Science and Engineering and creating our new M.S. in Applied Data Science and Statistics.
As a thoughtful teacher, Adam has contributed substantially to our computational curriculum. He developed our undergraduate statistical computing courses (STAT 3301 and STAT 3701), as well as our master’s level computing course (STAT 5701).
In his research, Adam focuses primarily on multivariate and categorical data analysis. He is an expert on the estimation of large covariance and precision matrices, and his work was recognized by a National Science Foundation CAREER award.
We are incredibly grateful for Galin’s years of service and look forward to the vision and stability Adam will bring to this interim role.
