Charles Doss Named Director of Graduate Studies for the School of Statistics
The School of Statistics is pleased to announce that Associate Professor Charles Doss has been named the new Director of Graduate Studies (DGS). Doss succeeds Adam Rothman, who has served as DGS with distinction and has recently transitioned into the role of Interim Director of the School of Statistics.
The School extends its deepest gratitude to Adam Rothman for his dedicated service as the Director of Graduate Studies. Under his leadership, the graduate program saw continued excellence in recruitment and student support.
Introducing Charles Doss as DGS
Charles Doss is a familiar face to students and faculty alike, having served the School of Statistics in numerous capacities. Known for his collaboration within and outside of the department and dedication to curriculum development, Doss served as Director of Undergraduate Studies in 2020-21, has served on the Executive Committee, and was integral in the creation and implementation of the Data Science track for the bachelor's degree program, ensuring the School remains at the forefront of modern statistical education.
As he steps into the DGS role, Doss brings a wealth of experience in mentorship and academic rigor. He is well-known for his involvement with the machine learning summer camp for high schoolers and his work as a mentor with the Math Alliance, reflecting his commitment to broadening participation in the field.
Research and Academic Focus
An expert in mathematical statistics, Doss’s research focuses on non- and semi-parametric estimation and inference, causal inference, and shape constraints. He has taught the School’s PhD Asymptotics course for many years.
