As a new first year or transfer student, you are required to attend an on-campus Orientation to help you prepare for a successful academic experience at the University of Minnesota.

Orientation Dates

Students Enrolling for Fall Semester 2020

Freshman Orientation (2- day on-campus orientation program)

As a freshman you attend orientation activities that span two days on campus. On the first day you'll hear about the University and your college, the College of Liberal Arts. On the second day you'll meet with an advisor and register for classes. Orientation dates are offered based on your responses to the New Student Checklist -- to see the dates that are available specifically for you please log onto and complete your New Student Checklist (checklist is available in April 2020). Not all orientation dates will be available to you because they are offered based on your responses to the New Student Checklist. Usually, by the end of May, most dates are full. Schedule the earliest orientation possible to maximize your course choice options.

Transfer Student Orientation (1-day on-campus orientation program)

Transfer students are required to attend a day-long, on-campus orientation where they will learn more about their transition to the University, meet with an advisor, and register for classes. Orientation dates are scheduled based on major, not all majors are offered each date and space is limited. To see the dates that are available specifically for you please log onto and complete your New Student Checklist (checklist available in April 2020). Schedule the earliest orientation possible to maximize your course choice options.

Parent Orientation for Freshman & Transfer Students Enrolling Fall Semester 2020

The Orientation & Transition Experiences office offers both a concurrent parent orientation during freshman and transfer orientation dates and a Saturday orientation session in June just for parents who are not able to attend during week days. Contact the Orientation & Transition Experiences office for more information about parent orientation at 612-624-1979.

 

 

 

 

 

Students Enrolling for Spring Semester 2021

Orientation dates are scheduled by major – not all majors are offered each date and space is limited. To see the dates that are available specifically for you please log onto and complete your New Student Checklist (checklist available October 2020). Schedule the earliest orientation possible to maximize your course choice options.

Transfer orientation dates for Spring semester 2021 will be in January 2021. Specific dates will be announced in October 2020.
