All new and transfer students are required to attend Orientation to help you prepare for a successful academic experience at the University of Minnesota.

Orientation Dates

Spring Semester 2019

Transfer Students (1-day orientation session)

Transfer students are required to attend a day-long, on-campus orientation where they will learn more about their transition to the University, meet with an advisor, and register for classes. Orientation dates are scheduled by major – not all majors are offered each date and space is limited. To see the dates that are available specifically for you please log onto and complete your New Student Checklist (checklist is availble starting Wednesday, October 31, 2018). Schedule the earliest orientation possible to maximize your course choice options.

Transfer orientation dates for Spring semeter are: January 10, 11, 14, 15, 17 & 18

Parent Orientation for January 2019

 
The Orientation & Transition Experiences office offers a concurrent parent orientation during transfer orientation. Fall Semester 2019

Freshman Orientation (2-day orientation sessions)

Freshmen meet with an advisor and register for classes at on-campus orientation. Orientation dates are offered based on students responses to the New Student Checklist -- to see the dates that are available specifically for you please log onto and complete your New Student Checklist. Depending on you responses in the New Studnet Checklist, not all date will be available to you. Usually, by the end of May, most dates are full. Schedule the earliest orientation possible to maximize your course choice options.

Transfer Student Orientation (1-day orientation sessions)

Transfer students meet with an advisor and register for classes at orientation. Orientation dates are offered based on major, not all majors are offered each date and space is limited. To see the dates that are available specifically for you please log onto and complete your New Student Checklist. Schedule the earliest orientation possible to maximize your course choice options.

Dates will be made availalbe in February 2019.

Parent Orientation for Fall 2019

 
The Orientation & Transition Experiences office offers both a concurrent parent orientation during freshman and transfer orientation and a Saturday orientation session just for parents. This is a great option for parents who are not able to attend during the work week.
