Led by Lisa Channer alongside a team of professional mentors from the Twin Cities theatre community, “Bohemian Flats” is a newly devised musical created and performed by BA Theatre Arts students. This ambitious collaboration between the School of Music and the Department of Theatre Arts & Dance dives into the rich history of the vibrant immigrant neighborhood that once thrived on the banks of the Mississippi, right in the shadow of the Rarig Center. Through rigorous research into the Eastern European, Finnish, African American, and Jewish families who lived there between 1880 and 1930, student actors, composers, and writers have crafted original scenes and songs that honor the music, stories, and precarious fate of this lost community.
