By William Shakespeare, Directed by Michelle O’Neill

Presented by BFA Acting Program Company of 2023, Guthrie Dowling Stage

This is a rare opportunity to present an epic Shakespearean jewel on the Guthrie stage with a director who has a long and outstanding relationship with the Twin Cities theater scene. Michelle O’Neill, who graduated from Juilliard, has acted in over 20 plays on the Guthrie stage and has been a director and instructor for the BFA program for years. Her intimate knowledge of Shakespeare coupled with her familiarity with the BFA program make her an ideal director for this production. Designed by MFA students, this is a play not to be missed, presented on a world-class stage. It is educational theater at its finest.

Seven years into the Trojan war and with no end in sight, discord snakes through the Greek and Trojan camps. Caught in the crosshairs of a “war for a skirt” are Troilus, the young Trojan prince and Cressida, the daughter of a defector to the Greek side. Pride, lust and tempers flare as the two young lovers navigate a world populated by heroes that are less than heroic and leaders that won’t hear reason. Shakespeare’s epic satire asks whether love can truly conquer all — or if it’s just another casualty in mindless war.
