Voting Rights Project is a timely, collaborative devised theatre performance created in the urgent style of the Federal Theatre Project’s historic Living Newspaper. Fusing historical documents, speeches, songs, and modern headlines, this studio piece traces the evolution of American suffrage—from the nation's founding documents and the Civil Rights Movement to current Supreme Court rulings and ongoing voting restriction debates—to creatively respond to the challenges facing democracy today.

Some notes about this limited performance:

We've decided to create a limited engagement for this performance. Our BA studio series is a place for students to deeply investigate process over product and pedagogically the focus is on the student experience. Sometimes this leads to a realized production that is ready for a full audience experience and occasionally we learn that a smaller footprint of outward sharing of the research is what is called for.

For our Voting Rights studio our students have been exploring history, first person narratives and their own civic engagement practices for five weeks. The exploration is now at a stage where a sharing of the research is possible but in a reduced capacity.

We welcome the public to come see and hear the workshop and research ideas in a sharing for Friday Oct 16 at 7:30pm.

Unfortunately, will not be sharing the work on Sat Oct 17 or Sun Oct 18 as we had originally planned.

We thank you for your understanding and for your interest in supporting student learning and artistry.
