Seeking cast members for Collidescope 4.0 Adventures in Pre & Post Racial America

Internationally acclaimed theatre artist, Ping Chong, will be in residence in the Theatre Arts and Dance Department, creating the forth iteration of the series, Collidescope 4.0: Adventures in Pre and Post-Racial America. This series addresses the history of racialized violence in the United States and its impact on thwarting citizenship for African Americans. As seen through the gaze of a time-traveling intergalactic alien, this series of "re-enactments" based on historical documents, speeches and testimonies, reveal a profound history of struggle and triumph, speaking truth to power.

Talvin Wilks is the co-creator and co-director of this series and is currently an Assistant Professor in the department having joined the faculty in 2016. He is a director/dramaturg with a long history with Penumbra Theatre, having directed recent productions of The Ballad of Emmett Till, The Owl Answers, This Bitter Earth and Benevolence. Wilks and Chong have a 25 year working history and are honored and excited to bring this project to our campus.

The challenge of this production is that we need a diverse cast, a cast that reflects many communities and cultures. This is a call for more students to audition for our productions. Students do not have to be theatre or dance majors in order to perform in our plays, we have an open audition policy for all UMN students.
