TAD Alumna Aya Cash is Published in the New York Times
Aya Cash, (Acting, BFA '04) writes about vegetables and changing her narrative for the New York Times
The TV, film and stage actress, recently tweeted, "I'm ridiculously excited to have a by line in the @nytimes. Read about my love of junk food and fluidity of identity..." Aya is known for her role as Gretchen Cutler in You're the Worst on FXX and her continuing work in Easy on Netflicks, In the past two TV seasons, Cash has also appeared on Modern Family, The Good Wife, and Sirens.
"I love her story about vegetables. It explains a lot about who she was in college." says Judy Bartl, now retired coordinator to the University of Minnesota / Guthrie Theater Actor Training Program. Bartl was part of the team involved in national auditions to selecting candidates for that first class in 2000.
"In walks this little girl -- little in stature. Not sure what we were to expect, she started her monologue and just blew us away. What power emanated from that small person! She was totally committed to the piece and it was a no brainer for her to be invited to join us in the inaugural class. So we made a really good choice - obviously. Aya is a multi-talented woman and I am so proud of the work she is doing." And so are all of us in the department of Theatre Arts and Dance.
Congrats Aya, take a bow. Now eat your broccoli.
