UMTAD COVID-19 Response and Performances

As part of the directives from University of Minnesota president Joan Gabel, the Minnesota Department of Health, and the governor’s office, The Department of Theatre Arts & Dance is now running a virtual office environment.

All faculty, staff, and instructors are required to work remotely unless their job physically requires them to be on campus.

Students & Faculty

Thank you for your continued patience as we gather the most recent University news and develop plans moving forward. As you can imagine, the adjustments have been a challenging opportunity for our faculty and instructors, and we appreciate your support and participation in our continued academic efforts. Please note that we are acting in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts and University at large for all procedures.

We recommend that you continue to read all University emails and reference the Campus Safe Website and their FAQs for students, faculty, and staff for the most recent information and resources.
For CLA specific information please continue to refer to the Updates on CLA's Response to COVID-19.

Academic and advising questions can be sent to your academic advisor directly. Please note, they are answering your questions as quickly as they are able, and some academica protocols are still being developed.

Building Access

Beginning Wednesday, March 18th the Barbara Barker Center for Dance is closed.

Beginning Tuesday, March 17th the Rarig Center will only be accessible with a UCard. No students, faculty, or staff are allowed to gather in any space in the Rarig Center; including but not limited to rehearsals, virtual class-instruction, self-taping of auditions, meetings, etc.

Upcoming Performances

In response to University President Gabel’s March 13th Event Announcement we have decided to cancel all remaining performances for the Spring 2020 semester. At this time, all performances are canceled for ‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’, ‘The Merchant of Venice’, ‘Moliere One Acts’, ‘Fresh Scenes’, and The Capstone Festival. Program leadership is working diligently to adapt to this unprecedented and challenging situation. We recognize that rehearsal, creation, and performance are cornerstone practices for our students, faculty, and staff and are exploring creative resources during this period of uncertainty.

As we actively monitor the situation we will notify our department community if an opportunity does arise for a public showing of any of the works previously scheduled with as much notice as the circumstance allows. The main priority continues to be the health, safety, and wellness of our students, faculty, staff, and audiences.
