Smaida Māra Rizzotto (MFA)
Smaida Māra Rizzotto is a second year Lighting Design MFA candidate at the University of Minnesota. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, BR, Smaida transferred her undergraduate studies from Rio to St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, OK, where she graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration. She has worked as a lighting designer in theaters such as the Rarig Center (2017 Dance Revolutions and The Eumenides), the Children's Theatre Company in Minnesota (James & the Giant Peach Jr.), the 2018 Minnesota Fringe Festival, and the Sarkey's Performing Arts Center (Virtues) in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She has also done technician work in many of the design areas. With a background as a dancer, Smaida has also choreographed and done lighting design at the Sarkey's Performing Arts Center and at the 2017 ACDA Central Region Conference. She has danced in places such as the Rio de Janeiro Opera House, the Theatre Joao Caetano (Rio de Janeiro, BR), the Festival of Joinville (SC, Brazil), and the Oklahoma Contemporary Dance Festival 2017.
