Jan. 22 - May 15, 2019
You gain practical experience through skills-based volunteering in a nonprofit organization, a "midternship," where you can apply your talents in new ways and expand your understanding of the social sector.
Your time commitment in the spring will depend on your preferences and what you want to get out of the experience. You may decide to work on a project that has considerable flexibility. Alternatively, you may choose to volunteer regular hours in a structured volunteer experience.
We anticipate that fellows will spend about 10 - 20 hours with the midternship, but there is flexibility. You will return regularly to the University of Minnesota for the continued Focus on Transformation meeting (either in person or virtually) to share and reflect on your experience.
This hands-on involvement allows you to leverage your skills to make a difference even as you gain valuable experience in social impact work.
SHIFT originally used the term "midternship" to describe an internship at midlife. Thank you to SHIFT for allowing us to use the term for UMAC.
