TCAB 2025-2026 Year in Review
The Technical Communication Advisory Board (TCAB) is a group of working professionals and business leaders focused on fostering student growth through connections with established professionals in the technical writing field. TCAB offers undergraduate and graduate students in Writing Studies degree programs with opportunities to receive mentoring and networking experiences. During the 2025-2026 school year TCAB hosted multiple events including their mentorship program, a student career workshop, and a TCAB member roundtable.
The TCAB Mentor Program provides an opportunity for students to connect with established professionals to receive guidance on career exploration and future prospects. The program is in its eighth year and typically runs from November through March. In November, students are paired with a TCAB member or program alumni that aligns with their goals and interests. During the program they meet with their mentor to learn about their field of expertise, what the industry is looking for in college graduates, and job opportunities. This year, we had 22 mentor-mentee pairings with students from all of our Technical Communication programs.
TCAB hosted their first Student Career Workshop this year. Students were invited to a discussion with a panel of TCAB members to ask questions and seek advice. Topics students asked questions about included Generative AI, portfolio building, and career pathways. The event let students hear directly from working professionals and gain their insights on how students can strengthen their standing as future new hires.
Each year, TCAB members and Writing Studies faculty meet at the TCAB Roundtable to discuss professional trends and expectations to improve student curriculum. The topic of discussion this year focused on Generative AI in the workplace. Conversations focused on individual experiences with GenAI, workplace trends, and suggestions for classroom instruction.
TCAB works to strengthen and support our students’ professional development and our events have made great contributions to student learning. We would like to thank our TCAB members for supporting our students and look forward to next year’s program. If you would like to contact the program, please email [email protected].
