Daphne Walmer, a long-standing Advisory Board member knows about connecting and learning. She is a business leader with over 30 years of management experience in Technical Communication and strong University of Minnesota roots.

As a graduate student at the University of Minnesota, she taught English Literature courses and took a graduate level seminar in Technical Writing from Professor Donald Ross. She then taught Technical Writing at the University of Minnesota. These experiences started her on a career within Technical Communication, and today, she is a consultant who helps companies throughout the world develop strategies for labeling and technical communications.

Daphne has always believed in giving back. In addition to helping to found and sponsor the partnership which has now become the University of Minnesota TCAB, she has been a long-term Advisory Board member for the Center for Information Development Management (CIDM) and a long- term mentor for Menttium®, an organization that matches women in mid-level management with women mentors in higher management.

When asked about her vision for the TCAB, she said she wanted to see the board “affect curriculum, provide pathways into opportunities for students to do shadowing, informational interviews, work on projects, and to gain a wider perspective.”
