We are hiring: Associate Director of First-Year Writing

The First-Year Writing Program in the Department of Writing Studies at the University of Minnesota is expanding and we are currently seeking to hire an Associate Director. This is a full-time, 12-month position and has an anticipated start date of 8/1/2022.

About the Job:

The Associate Director of First-Year Writing joins a leadership team including the Director and co-Associate Director that is responsible for the University of Minnesota’s First-Year Writing program. The Associate Director helps manage a program that serves approximately 5000 students in over 200 sections of courses annually and supports 60 faculty and graduate instructors. The Associate Director supports the program with design, development and assessment of first-year writing curriculum, programming and teaching.

The Associate Director of First-Year Writing has a central role in leading, developing and maintaining program innovation, excellence and efficiency. The successful applicant will demonstrate a knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of first-year writing and equity-centered pedagogy, and a commitment to and effectiveness supporting a diverse student body. The position requires an ability to attend to details as well as broader contexts. Successful candidates will thrive in a dynamic environment and demonstrate a commitment to listening deeply and working collaboratively in order to maintain and continually develop a supportive, responsive environment for students and instructors.
