Announcing Graduate Admissions for a Critical Latinx Studies Cohort for Fall 2023
Along with our partners, the Department of Chicano & Latino Studies, American Indian Studies, African American and African Studies, and the Race, Indigeneity, Disability, Gender & Sexuality Studies (RIDGS) Center, American Studies works to create innovative and inclusive cohorts in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
Areas of Study
We encourage students interested in Critical Latinx Studies to apply and to outline their interests. We seek students whose research places Latinx studies within a capacious, relational, and/or transnational frame and bridges these conversations to related fields and topics such as, but not limited to, the following.
- critical Latinx Indigeneities
- borderlands
- comparative and/or critical ethnic studies
- critical university studies
- abolition
- migration/immigration
- Chicana/Latina feminisms
- women of color feminisms
- LatCrit
- queer of color critique
- Afrolatinidades,
- Latinx geographies of the rural/suburban/urban
- queer Latinx socialities and performance
When applying to this Critical Latinx Studies initiative, applicants are asked to indicate in the statement of purpose how their research agenda in Critical Latinx Studies aligns with American Studies at the University of Minnesota. Any prospective applicant's work will need to align with one or more general areas of American Studies focus, and these will range across ethnography; political economy; transnationalism; Indigenous Studies; queer studies; gender studies; popular culture; etc., while being mindful of intersections with specific nuances of faculty expertise.
Deadline
Admission provides five years of funding, and the deadline for graduate admission is December 1, 2022.
