Portrait of Stephanie Gandy

Stephanie M. Gandy (she/her) is a Black and Irish artist, activist, and educator hailing from California and South Dakota, yet calling the Twin Cities home for over 20 years. She is a two-time graduate of the University of Minnesota with an undergraduate degree from the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) in studio arts and Afro Studies, which she achieved in 2015 as a nontraditional student of color. She earned her master’s degree in Multicultural College Teaching and Learning in 2019 from the College of Education and Human Development. Stephanie had the immense pleasure of developing and teaching in the inaugural Social Justice Studies program at Inver Hills Community College and currently serves in the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in CLA. Her research interests are guided by the intersections of American Blackness, artistic expression, social justice, and histories of racial qualifying in the United States. Stephanie aims to explore and interrogate racial taxonomies and stratification using interdisciplinary methods. In her free time, she enjoys creative self-care (baking, painting, floral arrangements), brunch, travel, podcasts, messy HBO series, and biking.
