Dewitt King

Cartoon Portrait of Dewitt King

Dewitt King is a PhD student in American Studies at the University of Minnesota. He is a geographer who thinks critically and carefully about race, space, place, and power. More specifically, he is thinking about the production of Black spaces and places, how racial capitalism informs sports organizations, how Black culture is constructed, disseminated, and negotiated across various mediums while also being concerned with the subjectivity and personhood of Black men. His former research projects include an ethnographic study of Black Barbershops in the southeastern US and a pilot project that examined the relationship between gentrification and the influx of capital on a street in South LA. His intellectual mission is to link critical human geography, cultural studies, and Black studies. He believes this intellectual triangulation is necessary to holistically research aggrieved communities.
