K-12 Outreach

The Center for Austrian Studies is committed to K-12 student and educator outreach in order to bring an awareness of Austria and Central Europe into the classroom and to nurture future scholars of Central Europe. We support educators in the form of teacher workshops and engage directly with students by supporting a prize for the National History Day competition.

Lecture Series

Since its inception, the Center for Austrian Studies (CAS) has offered a regular series of presentations by scholars in a wide variety of disciplines: the humanities, social sciences, fine arts, business, and medicine. CAS seminars range from descriptions of academic works-in-progress to presentations about more general subjects including reports of current events in Austria and Central Europe. The lectures are free; students, staff, and the public are cordially invited to attend.

All events are listed in Central Time.

Community and Cultural Events

Since its inception, the Center for Austrian Studies (CAS) has organized events designed to attract an audience from the wider community outside the university. CAS reaches out to the larger Twin Cities community by creating events that appeal to a general audience. Concerts, film screenings, talks by scholars, and other events are held both on and off campus. One of the first events sponsored in 1977–78 included chamber musicians playing Austrian classical music. Throughout the years, the Center has provided the community with a wide-ranging array of cultural events, lectures, symposia, and workshops—often in collaboration with other institutions.

Conferences & Workshops

Since 1978, the Center for Austrian Studies has organized symposia featuring prominent scholars from around the globe. Comparative and interdisciplinary in nature, their consistent level of excellence has resulted in strong attendance by scholars and students and a series of outstanding edited volumes published by leading houses on both sides of the Atlantic.
