Gordon Legge Named 2024 Edgar D. Tillyer Award Winner

We are excited to announce that Gordon Legge has been named the 2024 recipient of Optica’s Edgar D. Tillyer AwardOptica is a society dedicated to promoting the generation, application, archiving, and dissemination of knowledge in the field of advancing optics and photonics worldwide.

Legge is specifically being honored for “revolutionizing the field of low-vision research and applying his knowledge to aid and improve reading and mobility in people with low vision.” 

This award was established in 1953 to honor Edgar D. Tillyer’s important contributions to the advancement of better vision and the optical sciences. It is presented to a person who has performed distinguished work in the field of vision, including (but not limited to) the optics, physiology, anatomy, or psychology of the visual system. 

Congratulations, Gordon Legge, for joining this esteemed group of award recipients for your contributions to low-vision research.

Gordon Legge, PhD, Distinguished Mcknight University Professor, director for the Minnesota Laboratory for Low-Vision Research, and co-director of CATSS in the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota.
