Chia-Hua Tsai is a PhD student in American Studies at the University of Minnesota. She received her MA in Drama and Theatre Studies from National Taiwan University, where her research focused on the intersection of race performativity, body politics, and social movements in African American theatre. Prior to this, she completed a BBA in Finance at National Chung Hsing University. With her interdisciplinary research background, she strives to bridge the overdue conversation between African American and East Asian communities. Her doctoral research aims to retrace the role of “black America” in East Asia from the early 1960s to the late 1980s by delving into the cultural impact of US foreign policies. She also hopes to continue exploring the nuanced interplay of bodies that are empirically rooted, theoretically reflexive, and practically transformative in the construction of racial identity.
