Selena Moon

Selena Moon is a PhD candidate in the American Studies Critical Ethnic Studies cohort. She is a disabled mixed race Japanese American (Japanese-White) who has lived in several U.S. states and Japan.  She received her BA from Smith College and MA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.


She is a public historian whose research interests include Japanese American mixed race and disability history and their intersections. She has written for (non)-academic adult audiences and is working on children’s books about her research. She hopes to increase knowledge and awareness of overlooked communities, including women, disabled, and mixed race Japanese Americans. 

She is also working to increase accessibility at conferences, historic sites and museums, and for websites.
