Share one thing you wish you'd known about law school as an undergrad.

I wish I knew that grades, while important, are not the be-all-end-all for legal internships and jobs. I also wish I knew that more fellow students than I realized felt similarly stressed and the infamous "imposter syndrome!" It was easy to feel like an anomaly but I discovered gradually that many other students felt just like I did. There is simply a huge learning curve in law school, especially if you do not have lawyers in your family.

How did you choose your law school?

I wanted to stay in the Twin Cities and I knew that the University of Minnesota Law School was a top-tier school, so I put my energy towards studying for the LSAT and immediately applied to the U of M once I received my results. The clincher was the feeling I got from admissions, current students, faculty... everyone was warm and friendly, passionate about the law, and excited to represent the school.

What advice do you have for students/recent alums as they begin the application process?

Don't be afraid to reach out to current law students or alumni from the schools that you are interested in. I learned a lot by speaking to a current UMN law student while I was going through the application process. As a current student now myself, I personally love talking to prospective students and 1Ls about my experiences and helping them however I can.
