Over the last 40 years, the Department of Chicano & Latino Studies has played a unique role at the University of Minnesota and in the Twin Cities region.

Though we are a small department, our students are truly exceptional in their commitment to combining theory with practice. Many of our graduates have gone on to become professors and scholars in higher education, local schoolteachers, leaders in community-based organizations and non-profits, or small business owners.

Since making an official commitment to becoming a community-engaged department in 2004, students have logged more than 23,000 hours as volunteers or project collaborators through classes that have a service learning component on our department.

As majors or minors in Chicano and Latino studies, our students leave the university as critical thinkers who are knowledgeable about the critical role and contributions of Chicano and Latino communities to life in the US. They view the world through a social justice lens and are able to address complex social topics with critical intelligence, imagination, and creativity.

What Your Gift Can Do

You can help us build upon this impressive legacy.

Your support of the Department of Chicano & Latino Studies is critical to our success. Your tax-deductible contribution provides our students with encouragement and financial support in the form of scholarships for majors or assistance with on-campus housing for CASA SOL participants.

It also gives us needed resources to increase our understanding and knowledge of Chicano and Latino communities in Minnesota and beyond through our cultural programming and lecture series.
