CEMH & the Oakeshott Institute Digital Event: Bartosz Sieniawski

Bartosz Sieniawski is a lifelong Sport and HEMA fencer, and a scholar of HEMA who has broken ground in the study and practice of the Polish Saber of the 16th-18th centuries. He is the author of “The Saber’s Many Travels (The Origin of the Cross-Cutting Art),” a pioneering English article on the development of the saber in Poland and beyond (https://hroarr.com/article/the-sabers-many-travels-the-origins-of-the-cross-cutting-art/). Likewise, Bartosz recently starred in a film that has become viral among HEMA fans, Born for the Saber (Pol. Zrodzeni do Szabli), the trailer for which can be found here. At present, Bartosz is preparing a new article in Polish, then in English, concerning the source materials for the study of Polish saber of the Commonwealth period and beyond.  

The Oakeshott institute is thrilled to host Bartosz for our event in March. We will discuss the Polish saber and its use, the ways in which it has become an icon, its history, and the present study of Polish sabers. Our event will feature a pre-recorded discussion and live Q&A session.
