The myth of Switzerland’s perfection and proclaimed legacy of neutrality has long allowed the country to dismiss racism as occurring only outside of Swiss borders, not within. Je suis Noires / Becoming a Black Woman (Rachel M’Bon & Juliana Fanjul, 2022) contests and deconstructs this myth. After the documentary screening, filmmaker Rachel M’Bon and PhD candidate and community organizer Pamela Ohene-Nyako join us in conversation, moderated by Dr. Jamele Watkins, to discuss the film, the process of making it, and the affordances of documentary to challenge preconceived notions about what it means to be a Black Swiss woman.

This event is free and open to the public, registration is requested.

Sponsored by Institute for Global Studies, Center for German & European Studies and the Department of African American & African Studies
Co-sponsored by the Department of Cultural Studies & Comparative Literature, the Department of French & Italian, and Moving Image Studies Graduate Minor
