Hannah Ramer is thrilled to be joining the Urban Studies program this August. Before joining the department, she was a Policy Research Fellow through the Minneapolis-St. Paul Long-Term Ecological Research (MSP-LTER) program. Her research focuses on the relationship between nature and wealth inequality in the Twin Cities, touching on urban history, planning, property markets, and environmental justice. During her time at the MSP-LTER, she's gotten to contribute to projects examining parks and racial covenants, representations of nature in redlining maps, park planning in the face of green gentrification, and others. In addition to research, she is passionate about teaching and have taught classes on environmental policy, food systems, and agriculture at University of Minnesota and Macalester College. Before starting graduate school at the U of M, Hannah spent several years working in environmental education, nonprofit program management, and small-scale farming in New York and Massachusetts. Outside of work, you are likely to find her pulling weeds in her garden or enjoying one of Minneapolis’ green (or blue) spaces with her kids.
