Monica is a Latin American political ecologist working in the field of Global Asias. Her dissertation explores how the Amazon river basin is transformed through entaglements between the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative, indigenous ontologies, state-led development and geopolitical conservation; contributing to understanding Peruvian Amazonia as a Transpacific space. Monica holds a law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and a Masters of Environmental Management from Yale University School of the Environment. As Assistant Professor of Environmental Law (2019-22) at Universidad del Pacífico (Peru) she served on the board of their Center for Asia-Pacific Studies and started the Environmental Management Clinic, a legal practicum for students to engage with environmental policy and strategic litigation.
