Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships
Through a Title VI grant from the US Department of Education, the African Studies Initiative, in collaboration with the Institute for Global Studies, offers FLAS fellowships to promote the study of modern foreign African languages.
All African languages taught at the University of Minnesota (Arabic, Portuguese, Somali, and Swahili) are FLAS-eligible languages. In addition to those languages, approval of which is automatic, it is possible to study other African languages through CIC CourseShare during the academic year and during the summer through study at another US institution or abroad.
For more information on CIC CourseShare and available language offerings, contact Dan Soneson, the University of Minnesota CIC Course Share liaison.
