The Department of Anthropology invites you to the fourth annual Stephen F. Gudeman Lecture on April 8, 2024.

The Gudeman lecture is an annual lectureship featuring social and cultural anthropologists who work in the intellectual traditions to which Emeritus Professor Stephen Gudeman subscribed.

Dr. Audra Simpson (Columbia University) will be presenting on, "Settler Colonial Apologia in Two Acts".

What is the work of an apology upon a) time b) justice c) governance?  This study examines two modalities of the apology – one at the level of the state and one at the level of the individual to take up questions of purported repair in settler colonial contexts.
