RATE™ Wins Technology Excellence Award

RATE lets students Reflect on, Articulate, Translate, and Evaluate their career readiness experiences

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has selected the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities as a 2021 Technology Excellence Award winner for RATE™, its digital self-assessment tool.

The NACE Awards honor members' outstanding achievements in the career services and HR/staffing professions. The Technology Excellence Award recognizes excellence in best practices using technology and/or social media outlets.

RATE helps students develop an awareness of what they are learning, articulate the value of their learning, and see how that learning can translate to the core competencies of their liberal arts education. More than 18,000 students have completed 34,000 RATEs across every academic department in the college. Several outcomes are achieved, including:

  • Guiding students through the process of articulating and translating the value of their liberal arts courses and co-curricular experiences
  • Helping students connect their core competencies to experiences and providing feedback about the development of each competency through the Evaluate step of the process
  • Providing faculty with a user-friendly method for embedding career readiness into the classroom

NACE Excellence Awards are judged on program needs/objectives, content, design, creativity, innovation, measurable outcomes and ease of replication.
