CHGS Mourns the Loss of Dr. Robert Fisch

A portrait of Dr. Robert Fisch
The Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Dr. Robert Fisch. Dr. Fisch dedicated much of his life to keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive through his artwork or his efforts to promote Holocaust education. Dr. Fisch was a long-time friend of the Center. When we last visited him in 2019, Dr. Fisch donated a copy of his work, After All of This, which now hangs in the Center's office.

On the legacy of Dr. Fisch, CHGS Director Alejandro Baer said, "We have lost one of the last survivors who witnessed the Holocaust in Hungary as an adult. But we are blessed with  Dr. Fisch’s extraordinary art that teaches the courage of humanism in the face of adversity."

While the loss of Dr. Fisch will leave a hole in the community, his legacy will live on through the Center and the countless educators who will continue to be inspired by his artwork.

Dr. Fisch's artwork and interviews are available to view through the Center's digital collections, located here and here.

His obituary has been published in the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
