NEH grant awarded to Kate Derickson and her community partners

Kate Derickson and her partners in Gullah/Geechee Nation have received $175,000 from the NEH to further develop and make use of the Gullah/Geechee Alkebulan archive. This is the only archive of Gullah/Geechee culture and history curated by Gullah/Geechee people. Their team will continue to collect and interpret Gullah/Geechee history, continue to digitize the archive, and make use of the archive to promote thriving Gullah/Geechee communities in the face of climate change.
