Sayan Bhattacharya

Sayan Bhattacharya is a queer activist and journalist from West Bengal, India. He has an M.Phil in Women’s Studies from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He is interested in how queer people are accessing citizenship across caste and class specificities in India and how do these negotiations disrupt and/or get folded within normative frameworks of the nation state. His research interests include social movements, feminist ethnography, sexual citizenship, queer studies, transgender studies, critical disability studies and media studies. Sayan volunteers with a number of groups working on issues of gender, sexuality and disability in India. He has recently begun co-organising (along with Shampa Sengupta, disability rights activist and writer from India) an annual Gender and Disability Rights workshop in Kolkata to serve as a platform for conversations on the intersections between Disability and Queer Rights Movements in South Asia.
