Flying Foot Forum

Karla Grotting is a founding member, principal dancer and artistic associate with Joe Chvala and the Flying Foot Forum, and has been dancing with Joe Chvala since 1990. She toured nationally with JAZZDANCE by Danny Buraczeski, Keane Sense of Rhythm and the MN Jazz Dance Co. and performs regularly with theater/dance companies; Off-Leash Area and FTF Works. Karla has performed in works by Max Pollak, Lane Alexander, Billy Siegenfeld, Lynn Dally and others. Karla creates her own works which blend the unique styles of her tap, jazz, modern and percussive dance experiences and has set original works on the Flying Foot Forum, The Eclectic Edge Ensemble, St Olaf College, Carleton College, Macalester College, UW-Whitewater, the Keane Sense of Rhythm Social Club and others. Karla is currently on faculty at the University of Minnesota and is a visiting guest artist at St Olaf College; her awards include the U of MN Students' Choice Award for Outstanding Teacher in CLA, a 2007 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Dancers and 2010 Sage Nomination for Outstanding Educator. She teaches a jazz music based class that blends the history of jazz music and social jazz dance styles with a variety of other dance techniques.
