I am a Ph.D. student in Communication Studies at the University of Minnesota. My research explores how global media systems, digital platforms, and affective publics shape identity, belonging, and emotion across transnational contexts. Drawing from political economy, cultural studies, and interpersonal communication, I examine how globalization and digital mediation intersect in East Asian popular culture.

Currently, I focus on two areas: the political economy of Korean media, particularly how the IMF crisis and platform globalization transformed Korea’s cultural industries, and digital fandom practices that reveal how affect circulates and connects people across borders. Through this work, I aim to bridge structural analyses of media systems with the lived emotional experiences of audiences in a globalized digital age.
