Maddy is a health and family communication scholar, focused on how migrants' perceptions of a host country's healthcare system are shaped by transnational media and social remittances pre-migration, as well as post-migration experiences navigating the host country's healthcare system. As a former migrant to Korea herself, Maddy is most especially focused on how this process works for international migrant families living in South Korea. Maddy is especially interested in how migrant families fill the gap left by a language barrier across various family members' lifespans, how the social network affects all members of the family, and how members of the family make decisions about healthcare and migration with, through, or against other family members' support.
