Paul is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Geography, Environment & Society. His research focus is on the human-plant connection, including topics related to agricultural plant ethics. Before starting the PhD program in 2018, Paul worked for 28 years at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency on issues related to community sustainability, including climate change adaptation. He has also served as the executive director of Cottonwood Foundation since 1992 as well as of The Plant Initiative since 2020.
