Biography: Onteya Zachary, grounded by her upbringing betwixt the culturally rich City of Chicago and the Northwest Indiana region, is a Ph.D. student who witnesses the change dynamics that shape opportunity and empowerment within communities. Her current research endeavors, formatively entitled "The Black Melodic," explore the intimate nexus of Black community formation, cultural production, and the curious notion of debt entangled within these concepts. 

Focus area(s): Black geographies, theories of economic justice, critical urban geography, critical geographies of embodiment, and the politics of debt.
