Hesham Sadek

I am a development and environmental engineer with a background in mechanical power engineering and a strong interest in Geographic Information Science (GIS), remote sensing, drone technology, and sustainable development. I graduated from Ain Shams University in Egypt and have combined my engineering background with development and field experience across Egypt and Africa, working on projects related to water, agriculture, energy, climate adaptation, and environmental sustainability.

My professional experience has included water treatment, wastewater reuse, solar-powered irrigation, environmental interventions, and development projects. Through this work, I developed a strong interest in using GIS and geospatial technologies to understand, analyze, and visualize the spatial dimensions of complex environmental and development challenges.

As a Master of Geographic Information Science (MGIS) student at the University of Minnesota, I am expanding my skills in GIS, remote sensing, spatial analysis, and geospatial data management. I am particularly interested in integrating Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS/drones) with GIS and remote sensing for high-resolution mapping, environmental monitoring, resource assessment, and data-driven decision-making. I am also an FAA Part 107 Certified Remote Pilot and am actively developing my practical skills in drone-based data collection, mapping, and geospatial applications.

My broader interests lie at the intersection of GIS, drones, remote sensing, water resources, agriculture, climate resilience, and sustainable development. I want to combine my engineering background, geospatial analysis, and emerging technologies to better understand available resources, identify spatial patterns and risks, assess gaps and opportunities, and support the design of practical and sustainable solutions.
