Collegiate Affiliation

Sarah received her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a James A. Michener Fellow. Prior to joining the Department of Writing Studies as full-time faculty in 2020, Sarah was a Core Faculty member at Amsterdam University College, where she taught creative writing (screenwriting, fiction, nonfiction and poetry) as well as academic writing. Additionally, she has taught at the Emerson European Center, Istanbul's Bilgi University, Loyola University Chicago, the University of Texas at Austin, the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth and the Loft Literary Center.

As a journalist, Sarah's reportage and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNBC, the Star Tribune, Minnesota Monthly as well as several literary journals. As an author for Lonely Planet, Sarah co-authored six travel books, including guides to Amsterdam, New York, Texas, and Southwest USA. Her writing has won awards and residencies from the Austin Film Festival, the Chesterfield Film Project, Associated Writing Programs, the Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets and La Muse.
