Sonja Peterson received her BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and her MFA from the University of Minnesota. Peterson works as the Technology Administrator for the Department of Art, UMN.
She is also an independent artist in Minneapolis, MN where she was awarded the 2021 McKnight Fellowship as well as Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grants and the Jerome Travel Grant. Peterson will be a 2023 fellow at the Santa Fe Art Institute and has been the Artist in residence at the Bell Museum of Natural History and the American Swedish Institute.
Peterson has exhibited regionally and beyond including the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Weisman Museum, the Minnesota Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Center, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, Purdue University and Gallery Myotatuuli, Raahe, Oulu, Finland.
