Collegiate Affiliation

Zeb Hults is the Assistant Technical Director and Scene Shop / Props Shop Manager for the University of Minnesota Theatre Arts & Dance Department.  He teaches the Scenic/Props Technology portion of TH3571 and is an instructor for TH3100. He also severs as the Technical Director for the Professional Theatre Shop, which operates out of the UMTAD Scene Shop.  Most notable is the relationship with Penumbra Theatre in St. Paul, in which the shop produces three full stage shows and one holiday remount show each year. 

Before joining the University of Minnesota full-time in 2017, he freelanced in the local community as a Carpenter/Technical Director; spending time with Theatre Novi Most, Eclectic Edge Ensemble, Mad Munchkin Productions, Ananya Dance Theatre, Interact Center for the Visual & Performing Arts, Stages Theatre, Penumbra Theatre, Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, Circus Juventas, Maple Grove Senior High School and Wonderlust Productions, with whom he is a Company Member.  A transplant from the east coast, Zeb spent 10+ years in New York City / Connecticut working on a variety of projects ranging from props fabrication, running Off-Broadway shows as a stagehand, and manufacturing scenery for and crewing NYC Fashion Week/Corporate Events with Bernhard-Link Theatrical, to being a Project Manager for Global Scenic Services, the Technical Director for The Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts and serving as a production carpenter for Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, CT. 

Zeb is pleased to bring his experience to the University of Minnesota Theatre Department and enjoys the diverse relationship of Undergraduate Student Staff, MFA Students, and professional carpenters that exists there.
