UMN alumni who earned their doctorates in related fields pursue successful and rewarding careers in academic and other settings. Positions include, but are not limited to, directorships, faculty appointments, and postdoctoral fellowships.

There is currently a robust academic job market for PhDs trained in American Indian and Indigenous studies, reflecting surging demand for faculty and curriculum development across the academy. Our graduates secure positions in a range of disciplines with investment in the field of American Indian and Indigenous studies and in interdisciplinary departments. 

Graduates have been highly successful in public-facing positions as well, finding meaningful careers in nonprofit and government settings where their expertise shapes work in the fields of health, education, and the arts.
