The UMN Department of Art History invites applicants for the Gabriel Weisberg Curatorial Award, for which we are proud to announce an institutional partnership with the Minneapolis Institute of Art in 2024.

Designed to offer financial support for a graduate or undergraduate student interested in a curatorial career, this opportunity provides a scholarship award along with internship placement. The fund that supports this award was established in 2015 and the first recipient was named in December 2016. It honors the significant scholarly and curatorial career of Gabriel P. Weisberg, UMN Emeritus Professor of Art History. The 2024 Weisberg Award will be made in partnership with the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia).

Candidates for this cycle should be able to express their individual investment in shaping the future of collections-, display-, and/or museum-based practices for the twenty-first century. Working closely together, the UMN Art History Department and its partners at Mia will place the award’s recipient in a curatorial office best suited to their individual interests, experiences, and goals. For this cycle, the Weisberg intern will be placed in either of the following curatorial departments at Mia: Asia or Europe.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 11:59pm, Friday, April 19, 2024
