MVHR Travel Funding

The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (CHGS) and the Human Rights Program (HRP) are pleased to offer participating MVHR graduate students the opportunity to apply for travel funding to support their presentation of research at academic conferences, fieldwork, or experiential learning opportunities.

Topics must be relevant to human rights, mass violence, genocide, and/or the Holocaust. Applications will be accepted until the deadline listed below. First consideration will be given to those students who have presented or are scheduled to present their work in the MVHR workshop or the Human Rights Day Symposium in December and who participate in the MVHR community.

Questions may be directed to the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at [email protected], or the Human Rights Program at [email protected].

  • Brief cover letter (addressed to CHGS/HRP)
  • Date and title of conference/symposium/workshop/meeting/experience
  • Title and abstract of project (500 words)
  • Funds required (up to $500 US)

CHGS/HRP Travel Award specifications
  • $1000 in grants will be allocated in the fall term and the spring term. Applicants may request a maximum of $500.
  • Fall 2025 applications are due October 15. Spring 2026 applications are due March 15. Accepted applications will be announced by October 22 (Fall 2025) and March 23 (Spring 2026).
  • Applicants do not need to be accepted to a conference when they submit their application. However, they should report a) the conference at which they plan to present their work, and b) a back-up conference at which they hope to present their work should they not be accepted to their first conference of choice.
  • Applicants who do not include a conference acceptance letter with their funding application will receive a preliminary notification of acceptance, contingent on their acceptance to a conference. Participants must be accepted to and present at a conference to receive their award in the form of reimbursement. If acceptance is not granted for your conference of choice or a back-up conference, the award will not be granted.
  • Funding must be used within one year of the applicant's presentation at MVHR.
  • Receiving funding for one academic year will preclude you from receiving funding the following academic year.
  • Post award requirements: Students who receive MVHR Travel Funding are expected to present their research at an MVHR workshop and/or at the annual Human Rights Day Symposium in December. Students are expected to be active participants in the MVHR community. Students will also contribute an article to be published by the CHGS blog, The Society Pages, and Human Writes, a student-led blog supported by the Human Rights Program.
