Help Us Build the Next Century of Academic Excellence
In the 2025–26 academic year, the Department of Geography, Environment & Society will celebrate a century of academic excellence at the University of Minnesota. For 100 years, we've explored the complex relationships between people, places, and our planet. As we reflect on our rich history, we're also looking ahead to the future.
Your gift will help us continue to lead the way in research and education for the next 100 years.
Support Our Students, Today and Tomorrow
Your contribution will directly impact the lives of our students and help us continue to attract the brightest minds in geography and environmental studies.
Geography, Environment & Society Centennial Fund
The Centennial Fund celebrates the department's 100 years of leadership in the discipline and support both graduate student fellowships, undergraduate scholarships, and faculty creative activity.
Given the current financial challenges in higher education attracting talented faculty and students requires substantial resources to remain a top-ranked department. The Centennial Fund will provide the department with critical flexible funds that can be distributed to those most in need of support.
John S. Adams Scholarship
Named in honor of the late Professor Emeritus John S. Adams, this scholarship supports geography undergraduate students at the intersection of merit and need.
Abler Adams Palm Geography Field Research
Our students learn best by doing. This new fund will provide financial support for students to participate in field trips, research projects, and bring ideas to life through hands-on learning experiences.
John R. Borchert Map Library
This fund supports the Borchert Map Library’s geographic research and education through student aid, staff development, fellowships, public events, and special projects like Mapping Prejudice and Minnesota Historical Aerial Photographs Online.
